Minutes 0–5: protect one work zone

Choose the counter area where you prepare food most often. Move every object that is not used for that exact job into a temporary box. Do not reorganize the whole kitchen.

Minutes 5–12: group by routine

Make three small zones: morning drinks, cooking, and cleaning. Keep the most frequent routine at the easiest height. Duplicate tools and “someday” appliances go into the temporary box.

Minutes 12–17: use the vertical space you already have

  • Stack like-sized plates, not unrelated categories.
  • Turn one shelf into two only if both levels remain visible.
  • Keep heavy objects between knee and shoulder height.

Minutes 17–20: write the constraint

Before shopping, finish this sentence: “I need a solution that holds ___, fits within ___, and lets me ___ without moving something else.” If you cannot complete it, wait.

The no-buy rule: Live with the reset for seven days. A missing organizer will reveal itself through repeated friction; an imagined one will not.
